Wane is a free iPhone app for logging cigarettes, for people cutting down or quitting. No account, no analytics. Nothing logged in Wane reaches the developer.
In short
No account. Nothing to sign up for or sign in to.
No analytics. No trackers, no crash reporting, no third-party code.
No notifications. No reminders and no nudges.
iCloud. The log lives on the phone and in iCloud, under the account the phone already uses. Another phone signed in to the same account shows the same log. There is no Wane account, and no server behind it.
The same statements appear in Wane, under Settings → Privacy.
What Wane stores
- The date and time of each logged cigarette.
- A reduction plan, if one is set: a starting daily count, a goal, and their dates.
- A pack price, pack size and currency, if entered.
- Sharing settings, if the log is shared.
- On an invited phone, the name of the person who shared the log, as their Apple Account provides it.
Totals, costs and targets are worked out from these whenever they're shown, and never stored. Wane doesn't ask for a name, email address, location, contacts, photos or health data, and uses no advertising identifier.
Where it is kept
The records are stored in Wane on the phone and included in the phone's backups. When the phone is signed in to iCloud, they are also kept in that account's private iCloud storage, which is how they reach other phones signed in to the same account. iCloud is run by Apple, and the developer cannot see what is stored there. Without an iCloud account, nothing is copied to iCloud.
Sharing a log
A log is shared only when an invitation is sent from Wane, through Apple's sharing sheet, to a specific person. Once it is accepted, that person's phone logs into the same log: it shows the log's entries, and entries added there are kept in the iCloud storage of the person who shared the log. The reduction plan and pricing are never shared.
Each person can see the other's name as their Apple Account provides it. Access is managed through Apple's sharing controls, and either person can end it at any time. When sharing ends, the copy on the invited phone is removed, and the log stays with the person who shared it.
Deleting data
Entries can be deleted in Wane, and each deletion reaches every phone that shows the log. Deleting the app removes Wane from the phone, but not the log kept in iCloud: installing it again on a phone signed in to the same account brings the log back. Wane's data can be removed from iCloud in the iPhone's iCloud storage settings. The developer holds no copy of any log, so there is nothing to delete on the developer's side.
Information Apple provides to developers
Apple gives every developer some information about their apps. It is Apple's own reporting, not part of Wane, and Wane cannot switch it off:
- App Store statistics, such as download counts.
- If Share With App Developers is turned on in the iPhone's settings (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), crash reports and usage statistics, in a form that does not identify anyone.
None of it contains the log.
An email sent to feedback@wane-tracker.app reaches the developer with the sender's email address and whatever the message contains. Like any email, it passes through the mail services that deliver it. Emails are used only to deal with the message, are never shared, and are deleted on request.
This website
No cookies, no analytics, and nothing loaded from other companies. As with any website, the hosting company processes visitors' IP addresses to deliver the pages. The developer does not use them.
